Description

The 2024 Essence Shiraz opens with lifted aromas of jubey red fruits, ripe cherry and plum, layered with gentle spice and subtle French oak influence. A more oxidative ferment program introduced this vintage has enhanced the brightness and purity of the fruit expression, giving the wine vibrancy and regional character.

On the palate, the wine is generous yet composed, with pronounced but soft tannins providing structure and length through to a supple, balanced finish. Maturation for 18 months in seasoned French oak has mellowed and broadened the flavour profile, adding nuance, complexity and approachability, while allowing the wine to drink beautifully now or cellar confidently for 7–8 years.

A warm and friendly Rutherglen hello awaits. This is a wine without pretence, ripe, sweet fruited and eager to be opened and enjoyed. In that, it meets an expectation we all have for Rutherglen shiraz, but there are more embracing earthy, light savoury notes, plus texture and length. With dark plum, cherry fruits, dark spices, chocolate, sweet earthy notes and leather, this shiraz comes bright, soft and easy, carried on a bed of ripe tannins. Jeni Port
