Description

This single-vineyard Durif, sourced from our mature Quartz Vein planting in Rutherglen, represents our finest estate-grown parcel and is hand-crafted in tiny volumes using traditional methods. Aromas of raspberry, cherry, orange zest, and amaro herbs lead into a soft, vibrant palate with medium to full-bodied structure, enriched by chocolaty tannins and hints of liquorice and aniseed, creating a fresh and contemporary expression of Durif.

We aim for a restrained, modern style of Durif, avoiding excessive intensity, tannin, or alcohol. The wine spent 18 months predominantly in Hungarian oak, with selected parcels hand-plunged in open vats and aged in a mix of new and old barrels, with only the best five barrels blended to stainless steel to emphasize vibrancy, drinkability, and plushness over traditional, more powerful Durif characteristics.

Durif can and does rival shiraz for top red honours in Rutherglen. If proof is needed, pour a glass and enjoy this modern, vibrant, elegant and highly enjoyable durif. Pepper-spiced black, blue and plum fruits with dried herb and dusty cocoa aromas that light up the bouquet. Comes together seamlessly with a sense of class on the palate, with fine, nicely woven tannins running smoothly across the tongue, youthful fruit integrity and smart oak placement. Builds through the middle palate before finishing long and velvety. Geez, this is a good drop. ~ Jeni Port

We aim for a contemporary Durif which is not overblown with intensity, tannin or alcohol level. It is a deliberately restrained style which has spent 18 months on predominately Hungarian Oak to give a unique and modern Durif style.

Single vineyard Durif from our Quartz Vein vineyard in Rutherglen. Bright and aromatic, raspberry, cherry and amaro herbs. The palate is soft and vibrant with fine tannin providing some subtle richness to this fresh and contemporary style of Durif.

A selection from our Quartz Vein vineyard was vinified separately. Hand plunged in open vats and then pressed to a selection of new and old barrels. The best 5 barrels were selected and blended into a small stainless steel tank. Vibrancy, drinkability and plushness were given preference over old-school Durif characteristics.
