Description

Our Netherby Vineyard, originally part of the historic Graham Brothers Netherby Estate first planted in 1859, provides the foundation for our premium Shiraz. Once spanning over 550 acres before its closure in 1960, the vineyard’s rich Rutherglen loam continues to produce concentrated, high-quality fruit. The wine pays homage to the 101 years of winemaking history at Netherby while showcasing the distinct character of vines grown on the vineyard’s upper, leaner soils, where lower yields result in more intense flavours.

The 2023 Netherby Shiraz shows aromas of white pepper, black cherry, plum and dark berries with subtle vanillin oak spice, leading to a medium to full-bodied palate with a soft yet precise mouthfeel, fine chalky tannins and a lingering finish, shaped by concentrated fruit from the leanest vineyard parcels and 24 months’ maturation in predominantly seasoned French oak..

Netherby represents the finest parcel of single-vineyard shiraz made each year. It certainly lives large in personality, flavour and presence. Ripe, black fruits and woodsy spices to the fore, strong and potent, with layers of cacao, star anise, licorice, earth and sandalwood. Smooth, supple tannins bring extra length and inviting warmth as well as structure. Archetypal Rutherglen shiraz.
